I didn't get paid

So, fun fact for my readers: I don’t need to work. I inherited a gigantic trust fund with a balance that is easily more than I would ever be able to spend in two lifetimes, so I just do this to have something to do in a day.
Oh, wait.
No, that was complete BS.
But I had you going there for a minute, didn’t I?
Which brings me to the theme of this post: Money. Can't live without it. Infinitely preferable to live with it. You know how most people get money? They work. A job. Shocking, I know. You know what else is shocking? That you actually have to show up to the job to get paid. That's usually how that works. Oh, and someone needs to know you showed up for the job. For the majority of jobs, how can you prove you were there? Why, clock in and out. Obviously.
I spoke to a very incensed man who called on a Friday because he didn't get paid for the three days he worked before he decided to quit. The conversation was as follows:
Man: I didn't get paid!
Me: Well, sir, you didn't clock in or out, so nothing showed up on your timecard.
Man: Well, I was there!
Me: Alright, but you need to log your hours to actually get paid. We don't read minds.
Man: Why didn't anyone tell me my timecard wasn't submitted?
Me: We did.
Man: Nobody did.
Me: We did. Several times. One: on your first day during orientation, we walk you through how and when to log your hours so they are in the system in time for approval and payout each week. Two: we called you Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday last week before payroll closed to get your hours. You didn't answer or call back. Three: We texted you four times to get your hours, and even offered to enter them for you to ensure they were logged in time for approval and payout. Four: We sent two separate emails asking for your hours to ensure they were submitted. You didn't get back to us after any of that, so we presume you didn't work. Zero hours means zero pay.
Man: Nobody called me or texted me.
Me: Did you get a new phone number?
Man: No.
Me: Well, unfortunately for you, you missed the nine times we reached out to you on three different avenues to get your hours for payout. Since payroll is run once per week, you're going to have to wait until next week to get paid the hours you're missing. Now, do you want to give me your hours to get submitted for payroll this week, or did you want to wait on that again?
