An Observation

My sister is an engineer. She likes to talk about "assumptions" – as described by her, writing calculations about who-knows-what, designing goodness-knows-what, or testing who-cares-what all requires some kind of “assumption” to justify why the calculation/equipment/lab test doesn’t work or reflect reality (oh. Sorry. My bad. Let’s go with: “may not reflect field conditions”).

I enjoy snarkily repeating that we all know that ‘to assume is to make an ass of u and me.’

And yet.

And yet, I can’t help but think of that phrase as I’m typing this post.

Because I would like to assume that people who are actively sending out applications during their attempts to seek employment would at least imagine they might get a phone call from a potential employer following up on the application that was sent in.

Yes? Perhaps? One would hope?

And I would like to assume that person would be prepared to answer calls from a possible future employer.

Right?

Well, the fact that I keep assuming people should expect phone calls from possible employers when they are actively submitting applications really does make an ass of...well...me.

On a completely unrelated note, yet pointedly directed at the individual I attempted to speak to this afternoon:

"Who the hell is this" is not a good way to answer a phone call if you are actively seeking employment.

Just saying.
